Are you wondering if you’re a candidate for Invisalign? Most people are, but it can be helpful to know what makes someone a good candidate so that you can be prepared. This article highlights what makes someone a good candidate for Invisalign. Read on to find out more!
A good candidate for Invisalign
The following is a list of things that someone can refer to if they are considering Invisalign to straighten their teeth. This list may help them to determine whether or not Invisalign is right for them.
Crooked teeth
One of the most obvious things that makes someone a good candidate for Invisalign is if they have crooked teeth! Invisalign, like traditional braces, can significantly improve someone’s crooked teeth. People that have very crooked teeth will likely benefit from Invisalign, but it is also good to know that even minor areas of crookedness can benefit from Invisalign too.
Teenagers or young adults
Younger people make great candidates for Invisalign because their bodies aren’t fully developed yet, and that includes the mouth. The teeth in young adults or teenagers are still able to move more easily because they aren’t fully set yet. Because Invisalign uses aligners and doesn’t rely on metal to move the teeth, it is best for the patient to be younger so that the teeth can shift quickly and efficiently.
While Invisalign will work for adults too, the process may take longer. The results may take longer to show if Invisalign is used for adults or people that have already fully developed. However, this isn't to say that the aligners wouldn't work at all. It's just best to be prepared for a longer process.
Disciplined
Invisalign requires a lot of discipline because the aligners are removable. The treatment process relies solely on the patient because they are in complete control of when the aligners are in. A good candidate for Invisalign is someone that is very disciplined. The aligners should only be taken out to eat and brush, totaling no more than two hours per day. This will ensure that the teeth get the most benefit out of the aligners.
